about the artist

Born and raised on the prairies of rural Manitoba, Megan has always been fascinated with exploring the world around her. An imaginative and often fanciful country girl, her interest in art began early and has continued strong despite repeated attempts to earn a decent 'respectable' living. In 2004, Megan graduated from the University of Manitoba's fine art program with an honours degree majoring in drawing. It was during her studies at the U of M that Megan began experimenting with collage, using collected magazine images with layers of tissue paper and acrylic paints to create elaborate, vibrant paintings.

After various journeys and mundane daily adventures, Megan found her way to Fredericton. Currently, she is studying studio photography at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and plans to graduate in the spring of 2009. Exploring digital photography at NBCCD has given Megan a whole new way to play with collage - using her own photographs as the main elements in intricate and often whimsical digital images.

Megan recently exhibited her first solo show, 'a general refusal to grow up' at the Fredericton Public Library's Staircase Gallery. Other recent group shows include the Cool School/Warm Art show at NBCCD in the winter of 2007, the Freedom to Read exhibition at Westminister Books in February 2008 and the All Ages Show at Fredericton City Hall in the spring of 2008. Her current photographic exploration is candy ... images will materialize soon!

"I think we could all benefit greatly from a daily dose of fantasy and a small reminder of the magic and whimsy
we believed in when we were young."
